John Gascoigne, son of William Gascoigne and Grace James was born on the 11/9/1872 at Sutton, Bonnington, Nottinghamshire, England. He died on the 22/9/1949 in Durban, Natal, South Africa. John married Augusta Wilhelmina Pfeifer daughter of Frederick Baltaser Pfeifer and Henrietta Marie Coppen who was born at Amherst, Victoria, Australia on the 17/3/1877 and died 6/7/1930 in Natal, South Africa. John & Augusta were married on the 3 February 1896 at Wilcannia, NSW, Australia. In 1902, John, Augusta and their then four children, Bertha (6yrs), William John ( Jack) (4yrs), Herbert (1.5yrs) and Grace (1 month) left Australia for South Africa. Following their arrival in South Africa, four more children were born, Vera May, Amy, Gertrude & Phillis.
